A one-act tragedy by Vaclav Havel
Translated by Carol Rocamora & Tomas Rychetsky
Performances at The Brick Theater
Evening With Family is Havel’s first solo effort at playwriting, put aside and forgotten for many years. The play was never performed until after he became president of the Czech Republic. It premiered at the Vinohrady Theatre in Prague in 2000. Our production was the first time it has even been performed in English. We adapted the production to be a commentary on the extreme sides of Capitalism and Communism, which in the world of the play, can circle around to be the same thing.
